What better way to start a blog than with a rant?! After tidying up some stuff the other day I came across one of these Samsung HD501LJ drives that died last year. I bought 7 or 8 of these and 5 of them died.
Worst model of hard disk drive I've ever owned
It gave no warning, just started clicking one day. I think 3 of them did this, and the other two just went on a bad sector rampage. Here is a really exciting (not) video of this crappy disk before I removed its platters. That is one thing I didn't expect actually -- for some reason I imagined the platters to be ceramic/glass/whatever they used to be made from (i.e. hit it and it shatters). I hit these and they bent in half!
Not many brands of disk I trust any more. WD or Hitachi about covers it I think :/
